Electronic Data Interchange (EDI)

There are many benefits to submitting your Medicare claims electronically.

  • Increased accuracy
  • Less paperwork
  • Faster claim processing

The first step to becoming an electronic submitter is to obtain an electronic submitter identification number. This number is separate from your provider identification number that you receive upon entrance into the Medicare program with GHI. You may e-mail the EDI Dept. with your name, address, and provider number (billing agency name) and telephone number. We will mail an application packet to you. Or you can download the forms. After you return the completed application, you will then receive a biller identification number.

You may submit claims (files) to our office using software from an accepted vendor or you may use the GHI Med6 Plus software that can be supplied to you free of charge.

Once you receive your biller identification number you (your computer) will dial into our bulletin board and upload your claims to our system. You will later receive an acknowledgement report via the bulletin board that will indicate the number of claims that our office received, and the errors that were in that file. Any errors on a claim that were in the file will prohibit that claim from being entered into the system for adjudication. It is necessary to correct these errors and resubmit them.

Once the claim has been received by our office you will be able to call the automated response unit (877 868-7965) and obtain the status of your claim.

If you have questions, on the enrollment process for becoming an electronic data interchange submitter or the electronic submission process, contact the Electronic Data Interchange Department at 646 458-6721 or 646 458-6611.

Please be advised that it is NOT necessary to resubmit EMC claims, previously denied as unprocessable, on paper. Once the invalid or missing information has been corrected the claim can be resubmitted electronically through the BBS. This will allow you to take advantage of the 14 day payment floor for electronic claims rather than the 27 day payment floor mandated for paper submissions. If you have any questions concerning rebilling please contact GHI Medicare EDI area at (646) 458-6721.
