Group Health Incorporated (GHI) has been a Medicare Part B Carrier since 1966, processing claims for services rendered in its jurisdiction of Queens County, New York. In addition to Part B, GHI holds several other contracts with the Federal Government to administer various programs on behalf of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).

In addition to processing claims, Part B handles written and telephones inquiries, appeals and hearings. An extensive outreach program includes a web site, quarterly provider newsletters, and presentations at hospitals, advocacy groups and senior citizen centers, among other forums. A Carrier Advisory Committee meets three times per year to present new payment policies to representatives from the medical specialty societies.
Some facts about GHI Medicare Part B :
During the twelve (12) month period ending December 31, 2004, GHI Medicare Part B processed 4.83 million claims using a highly automated on-line system, of these claims over ninety-nine (99%) were completed in less than sixty (60) days. Eighty-four percent (84%) of the claims were received electronically through the GHI Medicare Part B EDI function. Claims are currently automatically crossed over to thirty-two (32) secondary insurers and clearinghouses. Over 500,000 telephone inquiries were handled, over ninety percent (90%) in under sixty (60) seconds.
